XRATS
An opportunity to sleuth and make money
387 Tall Stories - 381 TRUE and 6 FALSE
fact or fiction?
It's a kinda Whodunnit. There are clues as to which of the improbable Tall Stories are true or false. There is a prize for the first person who guesses which six of the 387 statements are a lie.

'I had this mate who joined the Merchant Navy and whilst we were dreaming of such things as white water canoe trips to Spain, he was off to exotic places around the world exploring the night life. When he was home on leave we would go out for a pint or three and he would regale us with stories of his adventures on the high seas. To be honest, I took some of them with a pinch of salt but when I voiced scepticism he would typically say, "Would I lie to you?" It probably seems a bit school-boyish now, but my stock response was "Stop calling me Woodeye!" This would have been about about 1972.'

In 2007 the BBC coined a programme titled, "Would I Lie to You?" The programme works on the premise that about fifty percent of the panel's propositions are true and fifty percent are false (actually the premise is that Lee Mac and David Mitchell, and their guests, are very funny). We are not so funny, so are much more generous... 381 of the 387 propositions are true and only six are not. Some of the 'Truths' are quite improbable! There is a lot of detail provided in terms of evidence, scuttlebutt, Community Chest (charities) and chance findings, so that even the most amateur sleuth should be able to tease out the fact from the fiction. I should make it clear there is no connection between this website (XRATS.CO.UK) and Zeppotron that is the producer and distributer of "Would I lie to You?"

There is an initial £2,000 prize fund but this will increase as more people (hopefully) take part until one lucky (or smarter) person wins!
